Adam Ant can't wait to get to South Florida

The man behind AntMania is not going anywhere.

Adam Ant, aka the King of the Wild Frontier, has already sold a staggering 50,000,000 records, so why stop now?

Adam (born Stuart Leslie Goddard) will showcase his latest album, titled (deep breath)  Adam Ant is the Blueblack Hussar in Marrying the Gunner’s Daughter, at Grand Central Thursday night. The 58-year-old ’80s icon is ready go go.

How does it feel playing songs from the new album live?

Last year I did 22 shows but only one new track from the new album.  Playing the new stuff takes on a dimension of its own.  Because the album is quite under-produced, we can actually fill it out live.  The new stuff has been received very well.  We are ready to go really.

Tell us about the band you will be playing with on tour.

.I’ve had this band together for two to two-and-a-half years.  We have done 150 concerts so we’ve been working on putting together the definitive set which is a balance of hits from each album plus some selections from the early albums.  There will be some B-sides and rarities.  There will be a couple of covers.  We will do a T-Rex cover.  And the new stuff as well.  I always leave the venue feeling contented.  It’s almost like having run a marathon.  I hope the audience is as exhausted as I am at the end.

You have a special relationship with American fans, don’t you?  Can you talk about that a little bit?

Yeah, when I first went to the States, it was a bit frustrating during the Adam & The Ants period because we were signed to a UK record company and they made every effort to keep us in Europe.  So there was a bit of resistance in letting us go to work in the States.  When I went solo, I made a bee line for America and I toured there with every single solo album in the States.  I am happy to have played America so much because you haven’t done a rock and roll tour until you have done a U.S. tour.

For the readers in the Miami area, you are playing Grand Central. Do you have anything to say to your fans there?

Yeah, I have played there many of times.  It’s always been a pleasure to play Miami.  On any tour of the States, as you are going around the country, the weather can be awful.  We always look forward to enjoying the sunshine there.  I have always liked playing there.  I’m looking forward to giving them Adam Ant 2013 and I hope it’s the first of many more visits.  I’m really looking forward to it.  I am sure it will be a good night for all!

Adam, many people think you deserve to be in the “Rock and Roll Hall of Fame?”  Is that something that you ever think about?

That would be nice.  Hopefully that will happen one day.  If someone someday would suggest it to them it might happen? This is one of those things that comes along or it doesn’t.  I think it’s one of those things that if you survive long enough and are productive someone says, Here you go! [Laughs].
