Gloria Estefan teams up with Oscar winner

You can go home again.

Barry University is welcoming back its famed alum, Academy Award-winning screenwriter Alex Dinelaris (Birdman), 7 p.m. Saturday.

He won’t be the only famous person in attendance.

Dinelaris, who also wrote Gloria Estefan’s Broadway stage biopic, On Your Feet!, will link up with the Miami-based powerhouse singer as well as actor Matthew Rauch (No Reservations, Labor Day) for a reading of his play, Still Life.

The plot follows Carrie Ann,  a photographer who inexplicably shuts down at the peak of her career and embarks on an unexpected romance with Jeff, a trend analyst also facing an uncertain future.

Saturday’s reading, open to the public, is at Barry’s Shepard & Ruth K. Broad Performing Arts Center, 11300 NE 2nd Ave., Miami Shores. General admission tickets are $20. VIP tickets, which include a reception with the cast, are $100; 305-899-3178.

Another interesting event with Dinelaris is happening on Friday, albeit private. Close to 100 schools from Dade and Broward counties were  invited to participate in a seminar on writing and acting starting at 4:30 p.m. The talk will be led by by associate professor of theater, John Manzelli. At 5:30 p.m. students will break down into smaller groups and partake in interactive workshops.
