The presenters of Telemundo’s morning show “Un nuevo día” surprised Jorge Bernal and his colleagues on celebrity gossip show “Suelta la sopa” with a cake to celebrate the program’s five year anniversary.

The improvised party took place on Monday, the day the program debuted in its new studio at the Telemundo Center.

“Suelta la sopa” first aired in October 2013 and since then it has become a key component of the network’s evening line up.

The team of presenters is composed of Juan Manuel Cortés, Carolina Sandoval, Luis Alfonso Borrego and Verónica Bastos, who are joined by a group of correspondents throughout the United States, Puerto Rico, Mexico and Europe.

The one-hour program is broadcast Monday through Friday at 3 p.m. It presents the latest news from the entertainment world through interviews and exclusive videos. Discussions about controversial topics often turn into hilarious debates.

“These five years of ‘Suelta la sopa’ mean a lot to us on a professional level because nowadays it is very difficult to keep a program on air with new content because of the amount of information that reaches people from different platforms,” Bernal told El Nuevo Herald, admitting that it is not easy to compete with social networks.

“Artists and promoters have access to the public just by putting any device to work. Fortunately, we have a very close relationship with celebrities and a tireless production team that allows our program to be unique.”

For the next stage, Bernal anticipates that they will have more guests and new segments.

“It will be a soup with the same ingredients that have given us so much success, but with much more flavor,” he promises.
