With the opening of its new King Kong ride approaching, Universal Orlando on Monday unveiled the enormous star: a member of the thought-to-be extinct species Megaprimatus kong, three stories tall, 18 feet wide at the shoulder, a head as big as a car, distinctive scars (“likely from battles with Vastatosaurus Rex,” according to scientists’ field notes), who expresses human-like emotions.

Visitors on Skull Island: Reign of Kong will encounter King Kong after confronting hostile natives and giant prehistoric creatures on a frightening journey through his turf.

“On the brink of destruction, Kong arrives. But is he here to save you?” a promotional video for the ride says. “This is his world and you are at his mercy.”

Skull Island will be at Universal’s Islands of Adventure. A grand opening date has not been announced, but a press preview is scheduled for late June.
