Key West will be celebrating its cultural connection to the Bahamas next month at the annual Goombay street festival. Set for Oct. 17-18, the lively festival is centered on Petronia Street, just off Duval Street in the heart of the historic Bahama Village neighborhood. The musical lineup features steel drum master Toko Irie, the Haitian-gospel orchestra Christophiles, the Bahama Junkanoo Shakers, the Thunder from Down Under Junkanoos, roots reggae/dub-hop stars Jahfe, Keys “trop rocker” Howard Livingston and students from the Bahama Village Music Program. Goombay weekend marks the beginning of Fantasy Fest, the 10-day masking and costuming gala that runs through Oct. 26.
