▪ Silversea Cruises has ordered a new ship, the all-suite Silver Muse, which will be built at the Fincantieri shipyard in Italy and be delivered in the spring of 2017.
The Silver Muse, at 40,000 gross tons and with accommodations for 596 guests, will be slightly larger than — and “an exciting evolution of” — the Silver Spirit, which launched at the end of 2009. It will bring the luxury line’s fleet to nine ships, including three expedition ships.
▪ After five years of SpongeBob SquarePants, Dora the Explorer and slime at sea, the agreement between Norwegian Cruise Line and Nickelodeon is coming to an end.
The cruise line announced last week that Nick-themed entertainment experiences will not appear at all on Norwegian Escape and will end on Norwegian Epic by October. On the other four ships that feature Nickelodeon activities — Getaway, Breakaway, Jewel and Gem — the themed entertainment will be available until Jan. 3, 2016.
Norwegian said it would beef up kids’ amenities on its next ship, Norwegian Escape, including a new nursery for kids between six months and three years of age and a bigger sports deck.
