The Bahamas, which celebrate Junkanoo every year between Christmas and New Years Day, have added a midyear Carnival celebration in Nassau. The first Bahamas Junkanoo Carnival will take place this year from May 7-9, featuring all sorts of musical events, a street parade and food.
The festival will kick off with Junkamania, a concert blending Bahamian Junkanoo music with other folk forms such as drumming and dance. Day Two will feature the Music Masters concert, a competition between contemporary artists including Baha Men and Machel Montano. The street parade and more musical performances will be on Day Three. www.bahamasjunkanoocarnival.com.
