Disney adds ‘Frozen’ attractions

Responding to the huge popularity of Anna and Elsa from the movie Frozen — the wait for a meet-and-greet with the characters at Princess Fairytale Hall has stretched to five hours a number of times — Disney’s Hollywood Studios has added Frozen-related activities, including more character appearances, ice-skating and sing-alongs.

“Frozen Summer Fun Live!” — which will run through Sept. 1 — starts with a daily character procession on Hollywood Boulevard. Each day at 11 a.m., Anna and Elsa appear in a horse-drawn sleigh, accompanied by their entourage.

Many of the activities take place on Soundstage One where Oaken — another character from the movie — has set up his Trading Post and Frozen Funland. It houses ice skating, ice-carving demonstrations, evening dance parties, and of course merchandise. There are also a Frozen-themed fireworks show and a Frozen Sing-Along in the Premiere Theater. Anna and Elsa continue to appear daily at Princess Fairytale Hall and in the Festival of Fantasy Parade at Magic Kingdom.

buys famed hotel

The storied Las Vegas Hilton, famous for staging Liberace and more than 800 sold-out Elvis Presley concerts in the 1960s and 1970s, has a new name and owner.

Florida-based timeshare company Westgate Resorts announced it purchased the LVH hotel from Goldman Sachs and Gramercy Capital and would rename it Westgate Las Vegas Resort & Casino.

The property was the largest hotel in the world when billionaire investor Kirk Kerkorian opened it as The International Hotel in 1969.

Free Wi-Fi approved at NYC airports

Free Wi-Fi is coming to the New York City metro area’s major airports.

The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey has approved a plan to offer free access at Newark Liberty International, John F. Kennedy International and LaGuardia airports, to a point: Wi-Fi would be free for 30 minutes, then travelers would have to pay $7.95 for the day.


Baseball museum extends hours

The Louisville Slugger Museum and Factory is offering evening visitors a discount at the downtown Louisville attraction.

The museum’s Six After Six summer promotion will allow guests to visit the museum for $6 on any tour that begins after 6 p.m. on Thursday through Saturday. The promotion runs through Aug. 10.

Museum Executive Director Anne Jewell says summer is the attraction’s busiest season.

It’s the second year the museum has expanded its operating hours to 8 p.m. on certain days. Kids age 5 and under are admitted free.
