Designed by architect Richard Landry, the contemporary house is set on a nearly half-acre knoll above the Sunset Strip with city and ocean views. The grounds include an infinity-edge swimming pool with a spa.
A sweeping circular staircase connects the three levels of living space, which extends outdoors through numerous balconies and patio space.
The master suite features a retractable skylight with a motorized blackout shade, walls of glass, a fireplace and an indoor-outdoor shower. There are three other bedrooms, a bonus room that could be used as a bedroom, a home theater and eight bathrooms.
The subterranean garage has room for six cars and was designed to double as a nightclub.
Franklin, 59, also created the series Hangin' With Mr. Cooper.
He bought the property in 1988 for $1.9 million.
PICTURE-PERFECT IN LOS FELIZ
Portrait photographer Mark Seliger has listed his Richard Neutra-designed house in Los Feliz at $4.5 million.
Restored to maintain its architectural integrity, the 1949 Alpha Wirin House is a prime example of Neutra’s Midcentury Modern work.
Walls of glass take in views of the cityscape and downtown Los Angeles. Balconies add an indoor-outdoor element to the hillside home. Wood ceilings and built-ins bring a sense of warmth to the interiors.
The two-story house has 2,262 square feet of living space, including two bedrooms and three bathrooms.
The nearly three-quarter acres of grounds are planted with palms and succulents. Steps lead to a swimming pool below the house.
Seliger is known for his photographs of such notables as President Barack Obama, Mick Jagger and Kurt Cobain. He has shot covers for Rolling Stone, GQ and Vanity Fair, among other publications.
He bought the property in disrepair a decade ago for $1.575 million. Designer Mark Haddawy worked on the restoration.
