Hot property: Malibu retreat quickly charms a buyer

Jensen Ackles of Supernatural and his actress wife, Danneel Harris, put their gated home in Malibu up for sale at $6.995 million and in four days they had a buyer.

Set on more than an acre, the just-remodeled house features a formal entry, a grand living room surrounded by garden-view windows, dining and family rooms, a den, five bedrooms and six bathrooms in nearly 6,000 square feet of living space.

The updated kitchen has a large island, custom cabinetry, marble surfaces and hand-painted tile. A guest suite sits above the garage.

The flat yard has a swimming pool with a spa, an outdoor kitchen/barbecue, mature trees and three lawn areas.

Ackles, 36, has played demon-hunting brother Dean Winchester since the Supernatural series started in 2005. Before that he was in Smallville (2004-05) and Still Life (2003-04).

Harris, 35, was in the series Friends With Benefits (2011) and One Tree Hill (2005-09). More recently she starred in the TV movies Baby Bootcamp, Naughty or Nice and One Tree Hill: Always & Forever.

The property sold two years ago for $4.8 million, according to the Multiple Listing Service.


Vince Vaughn has bought a Hollywood Hills West home from Kate Bosworth for $2.375 million.

Set at the end of a long gated driveway, the updated home was built in 1955 and sits on more than half an acre. Patio space, decks, greenery and a lap pool surround the 2,890-square-foot house, which has canyon and greenbelt views.

There’s an office, three bedrooms and 2.5 bathrooms.

Vaughn, 44, has starred in such films as Delivery Man (2013), Wedding Crashers (2005) and Old School (2003). He is working on several movies for next year including the crime drama Term Life.

He also owns homes in La Canada Flintridge and Manhattan Beach, where he bought former University of Southern California football coach Lane Kiffin’s house, as well as a penthouse in Chicago.

Bosworth, 31, starred in Big Sur (2013), Straw Dogs (2011) and Superman Returns (2006).

She bought the property in 2005 for $2.1million, public records show.


Singer-songwriter Kesha spent $1.65million recently on a house in L.A.’s Venice neighborhood.

The Spanish-style bungalow, built in 1926, features arched entryways, dining and living rooms, a breakfast area, three bedrooms and two bathrooms in slightly more than 1,400 square feet of living space. French doors off the master suite open to the backyard, which has a spa and a fireplace.

The detached one-car garage has been converted into an art studio.

Kesha, 27, co-wrote the songs for her albums Animal (2010) and Warrior (2012) and has written for other singers, including Britney Spears and Miley Cyrus. Among her biggest hits are Tik Tok and Die Young. She is on ABC’s singing competition show Rising Star.

The property previously sold in 2007 for $1.3million.

The third of an acre lot contains mature palm trees, a swimming pool and a guesthouse.

Ball, who died in 1989 at 77, made her mark as a comedian starring in such sitcoms as I Love Lucy, The Lucy Show and Life With Lucy over nearly four decades. Arnaz, who died in 1986 at 69, played her husband, Ricky Ricardo, on I Love Lucy. They were married from 1940 to 1960.

The property last changed hands two years ago for $4.285 million.


Jason Biggs of Orange Is the New Black has listed a house in Hollywood Hills West for $2.995 million.

Biggs, 36, was in the American Pie films. He provides the voice for Leonardo on the animated series Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.

He bought the property in 2007 for $2.249 million, public records show. The next year he married actress-author Jenny Mollen. She has been on Angel (2003-04), Viva Laughlin (2007) and Crash (2009).


Drummer Jack Irons, a founding member of the Red Hot Chili Peppers, has his place in Malibu up for sale at $1.975 million.

The country farmhouse with wraparound porch sits on 5 acres with ocean and mountain views. More than 3,000 square feet of living space includes an entry, dining and living rooms, a den, an office/art studio, three bedrooms and three bathrooms. The master suite features a fireplace and an ocean-view deck.

There’s a larger sound/recording studio on the home’s second level. The grounds include flower gardens and fruit trees.

Irons, 52, has also played with Pearl Jam, Eleven and the Wallflowers.

He bought the property in 2001 for $849,000.
