Five easy skin fixes for men over 60

Do you hate looking at pictures of yourself? There are easy things that you can do that will make you happier with your appearance without requiring a lot of effort. About 30 percent of my patients are men who are CEOs and in the public eye, who do not want to look like they had any cosmetic work done.

These procedures can give you a natural, healthier look:

Botox for frown lines

Appropriately placed Botox (or Dysport or Xeomin) helps to raise the central eyebrow by a few millimeters, giving you a more open, refreshed look that appears less angry and tired. The cost for this treatment is about $300 to $350, and the results last around four months, so you only have to schedule three appointments per year. Each time, the targeted muscle gets weaker and weaker, so you can gradually space out your appointments farther apart over time. There is usually no downtime after Botox, so you should be able to get back to your busy schedule. If done properly, this looks very natural.

Jawline definition

Loss of fat in the central face causes jowls, and the jawline starts to lose its nice sharp angle. These can be recreated with dermal filler. One syringe can cost anywhere from $400 to $1,000, depending on the brand, and the number of syringes you will need depends upon how much facial fat loss there is.

Kybella

Fat under the chin is another cause of loss of jawline definition. Kybella is injected into the fat in this area to dissolve it. Most people need three to five treatment sessions, each spaced one month apart. Syringes cost about $600 each, and the amount needed depends on how much fat is there. Most physicians sell these in packages of three with a discount. The average cost is about $3,000 for three treatments ($1,000 per treatment) of stubborn chin fat.

Laser hair removal

The latest lasers are very fast and inexpensive, so there is no need to keep that nostril hair, ear hair, or back hair. Treatments range from $200 and up, depending on how many areas need to be treated. Most men require three to six treatments spaced one month apart, depending on how thick the hair is.

Ulthera

Sagging neck skin can be tightened with Ulthera, a device that uses ultrasound energy to deliver heat. The heat shrinks collagen within the skin, creating a tightening effect. This can dramatically improve the jawline as well.

Bottom line

These treatments can be used alone or together. Most men do not want to look like they had anything done. I chose these procedures because they look natural, yet can make a huge difference in the way you look and feel.
