Q: I want to pick the best facial plastic surgeon for my nose surgery. I checked out many doctors online and they all have great accolades. What are your recommendations?
A: Ignore half the accolades because many out there are bought and paid for. I receive at least one or two buying opportunities a week telling me that for several thousand dollars I could be the top of this, or the best of that, or the maximum of everyone.
There are a few review sites that are legitimate and those are the ones you need to look for. A great majority of these marketing companies are all about giving a certificate and advertising for the doctor as if he or she really did anything to deserve it! Often times the “awards” cost several hundred dollars in a beautiful embossed frame.
This is how I would recommend you go about picking your surgeon:
Interview a doctor and ask what all his or her accolades are and how did he or she come by them. In addition, I would read reviews on sites such as realpatientratings.com, Realself or any of the other multiple sites on social media.
Understand, that every once in a while doctors cannot make everybody happy, and even if the results are great the patient doesn’t like them. The litmus test is when you actually meet your doctor. Ask him or her about their experience, how many nose procedures they’ve done, and, above all, have them show you before and after pictures. If they won’t show you because of privacy issues, I would not make them your doctor.
