Q. Now that the Miami Heat season has ended, is there anything special done in the off-season for the players’ health?
A. The offseason is actually a very busy time for our medical team. All players get an exit physical. Those players still nursing injuries, receive a plan to heal and rehab for the summer. Conditioning weaknesses are identified and a strengthening-and-conditioning program for each player is set up by our training staff so the athlete returns in great shape with a lower risk of injury. Although, we currently do not have a draft choice during the upcoming draft, 60 rookies were examined by our medical team at the NBA Chicago Combine. The Heat will also have at least one free agent training camp this summer that requires full pre-participation physicals. The Heat summer league team that plays in Orlando and Las Vegas will also require physicals and medical care.
