Merrick Way, in the City Beautiful, has a trio of workout options to help you get your summer body in shape.

Summer body, where are you?

Look no further than Coral Gables, where several boutique gyms on Merrick Way have billed themselves as “Fitness Row.” Gym goers — whether enthusiastic or begrudging — can experience a range of exercise that with consistency will be sure to get them on track for bikini season.

IRON TRIBE FITNESS

Learn to safely and effectively lift weights to improve fitness, posture and lifestyle. Iron Tribe Fitness is one studio in a franchise of more than 40 fitness facilities across the nation. Its core mission centers on life adjustments and instructors vow a holistic approach to achieving that goal.

“Our purpose is to create fitness communities that change lives,” which isn’t about obtaining a desired physique, said head coach Ben Ruetenik. “It doesn’t mean change biceps, change abdominals, change muscles. It’s change lives.”

Iron Tribe Fitness offers personal chef services and life coaches for people committed to fitness and health. Group workouts are a huge component of each 45-minute session, which includes intense circuits with minimal equipment monitored by two coaches. Classes are restricted to 20 members. A three-point program offers improvements in overall fitness, strength and athleticism.

PILATES PROWORKS MIAMI

Target your core while improving your flexibility and balance at Pilates ProWorks Miami. The boutique studio veers away from traditional Pilates in that its aim is not rehabilitation, owner Summer Christensen said.

“We’re focused on giving people a workout. My goal is that people leave sweaty and smiling,” she said.

The ProWorks facility has two studios, two showers and items for purchase, such as Pilates socks with grips. Christensen said her teachers are trained to help clients meet their fitness goals regardless of skill level. Regular clients are college students, mothers of young children and women and men of all ages.

Pilates ProWorks offers three classes: a Pilates pro class that makes use of Pilates machines; a matBox class, which is a mixture of boxing, mat Pilates and yoga; and Christensen’s latest addition, tone and flow, a combination of mat Pilates, yoga and toning exercises with weights.

WATERBIKING STUDIO

Work your way to the perfect bikini body by taking a dip in the pool. WaterBiking Studio offers six classes for a full-body workout with a splash. If you’re trying to get fit for the summer, now’s the time to join, studio manager Benjamin Ybarra said.

“That’s been our biggest crowds, you know, people getting ready for the beach,” he said.

But if you think WaterBiking Studio is all fun and games, think again. Ybarra said his team builds personal relationships to keep members on track with their goals “and hold them accountable.”

The pool at ProWorks is heated to a comfortable 88 degrees and sterilized with bromine salt, which also contributes to a floating sensation. Ybarra said the pool also pumps about 80 gallons of water a minute to keep the workout environment sanitary.

“You’re not sitting in anybody’s sweat, I promise you,” he said.

But clients should expect to get wet. The six classes offered at WaterBiking Studio implement submerged bikes, treadmills and steppers. Ybarra also suggests aqua Zumba and boxing sessions, which flaunt the opportunity to burn up to 800 calories.

The benefits of adding water to workouts include increased range of motion to joints, improved weight loss, the alleviation of muscle soreness and a reduction in the appearance of cellulite, according to Ybarra.

WaterBiking Studio has male and female locker rooms, multiple showers, towels and other shower necessities, plus water shoes.
