Breast cancer program to feature actress and fashion show

The Miami Cancer Institute at Baptist Health South Florida and other sponsors are offering a one-day seminar for breast cancer survivors on May 13 in downtown Miami. The cost to participate is $65.

The theme of the 16th annual Day of Caring Breast Cancer Awareness at the Intercontinental Hotel, 100 Chopin Plaza, is “Love, Laugh, Live.” It will include a keynote speech by actress, sometimes comic and cancer survivor Aniela McGuiness, seminars with medical professional on survivor stress management, reconstructive surgery and preventive nutrition, according to a statement from the sponsors.

Also on the schedule: a post-gourmet lunch fashion show called “Models of Hope” featuring both men and women survivors of breast cancer.

The site describes the event as “a locally-planned, volunteer-based, self-supporting community event designed to educate, empower and give hope to everyone affected by breast cancer.” Its advisory board is made up of local doctors, including oncologists, surgeons and other cancer specialists.
