C. Virginia King, Bartender at the Broken Shaker at Freehand Miami

Why she’s in the Food 50: Wherever C. Virginia King is pouring cocktails is where you want to be. That’s most often behind the stick at the Broken Shaker, Miami Beach’s premier craft-mixology hangout, where the colas are housemade, the herbs are homegrown and the juices are fresh-pressed. But as King’s reputation spreads — she won a national Manhattan cocktail competition last year and recently was featured in Bloomberg Businessweek — so do her guest appearances at bars around town. She popped up at Macchialina for a tiki takeover, at Mansion for an Ilegal Mezcal affair and at Haven for a head-to-head cocktail contest. The best bartenders never stand in one place too long. Find King and have her fix you a drink. You won’t be disappointed.

Where to find her: Broken Shaker, 2727 Indian Creek Dr., Miami Beach.
