Not just Simpson family but now all of Springfield coming to Universal Studios

May 24, 2013 06:41 PM

Five years afte r the dizzying Simpsons Ride debuted at Universal Studios in Orlando, the theme park is expanding the presence of the dysfunctional television family and its hometown of Springfield.

Under construction and scheduled to open this summer is Fast Food Boulevard, Springfield, which will feature businesses and characters from the TV show, a new ride, and Duff Beer, brewed just for Universal Orlando. Visitors will be able to eat at Krusty Burger, the Frying Dutchman, Luigi’s Pizza, Lard Lad Donuts and of course, Moe’s Tavern. Characters that will have new roles in the expansion are Krusty the Clown and Sideshow Bob.

In addition, a new ride, Kang & Kodos’ Twirl ’n’ Hurl -- named after a duo of space aliens who appear on the show occasionally -- will take visitors on an intergalactic spin.

Universal did not specify opening dates for any of the additions or even whether they would all open at once, saying only they would debut this summer. The expansion has been under construction for some time, but until now, Universal had declined to say what was going up.
