On eve of wedding, Spoelstra buys Coconut Grove home

Miami Heat coach Erik Spoelstra, who’s getting married to a former Heat dancer in July, has already upgraded his living quarters from his bachelor’s condo.

Spo, 45, just plunked down $2.6 million for a historic house in Coconut Grove, according to property records. He is set to get hitched to former cheerleader Nikki Sapp July 1.

Public records show the two-time NBA championship-winning coach signed on the dotted line to take possession of a plantation home in the chi-chi Acreage part of the Grove on May 26 — 10 days after the Heat were eliminated from the NBA playoffs by the Toronto Raptors.

The listing agent didn’t comment, but the sales pitch for the 5,400-square-foot house included almost an acre of lush, tropical land with winding pathways and an oak tree canopy.

The main house has four large bedrooms and five bathrooms, including servant’s quarters, and a guest cottage features another bedroom.

The 1937 house was extensively renovated as of late and now has wide-plank wood flooring and vaulted wood-beamed ceilings, a kitchen with island and top-of-line appliances and a master suite with a large terrace overlooking the large pool.

Unlike his players, who often pay cash for their houses, Spoelstra got a mortgage just like the rest of us shleppers. Naples-based Florida Community Bank gave Spo a $1.95 million mortgage.

Ever since he started rising up the ranks within the Heat, Spoelstra was living in a two-bedroom condo at the residences at the Ritz-Carlton in Coconut Grove. He also owns a summer surfer hideway in the Kehei area of Hawaii.
