La policía lanzó gases lacrimógenos, balas de goma y bombas de estruendo para dispersar manifestantes antiCopa en Sao Paulo, donde se inaugura este jueves el Mundial de fútbol, constató un periodista de la AFP.

Decenas de manifestantes se reunieron esta mañana cerca de la estación de metro Carrao de esta megalópolis, cargando una pancarta que rezaba “Si no tenemos derechos, no habrá Copa”.

Dijeron que su objetivo era acercarse lo más posible al estadio Arena Corinthians, donde el Mundial se inaugura a las 17h00 (20h00 GMT), pero la policía de choque, portando escudos, los dispersó con bombas de estruendo y gases lacrimógenos antes de que la marcha arrancara.

Un policía disparó balas de goma contra un manifestante sin camiseta que se ubicó en medio de la calle y se negaba a partir. La policía luego lo detuvo.

“¡No habrá Copa!”, cantaban los manifestantes antes de ser dispersados, una frase que se ha convertido en el lema de muchos brasileños indignados con los 11.000 millones de dólares que el Mundial costará a los contribuyentes brasileños, y que reclaman para la educación, la salud, la vivienda y el transporte.

Gregory Leao, un estudiante de 27 años que participó en la protesta, dijo que los manifestantes querían aproximarse al estadio.

“El objetivo es poner un fin a la Copa del Mundo. Nos damos cuenta de que no lo conseguiremos pero creemos que los brasileños deben participar en una revuelta”, dijo a la AFP.

“Los brasileños aman el fútbol pero no precisan esto ahora”, añadió.

Para este enorme país de 200 millones de habitantes, la Copa tiene un sabor agridulce. Muchos brasileños salieron a las calles vestidos de verde, azul y amarillo, los colores de su bandera y su ‘Seleçao', incluida la presidenta Dilma Rousseff. Pero otros tienen miedo de las protestas o pretenden participar en ellas.
