Jeff Koons seems to be on everybody who’s anybody’s radar these days. Lady Gaga recently tweeted her love for the New York artist, who created the cobalt orb she wields like a newborn on the cover of her latest album, appropriately titled Art Pop. The Oceana Bal Harbour will install two of his works, Pluto and Proserpina and Ballerina, valued at $14 million, in the under-construction condo.
Want your own slice of Koons cool? For $20K, you can snap up his Balloon Venus for Dom Pérignon, part art, part function. Koons — known for his cartoonish, oversized animals (such as Puppy), gorgeously bulbous flowers ( Tulips) and his shock-and-awe(some) sculpture of Michael Jackson and Bubbles the chimp — has teamed with the famed French brand for this lavish champagne container. Inside it rests the Rosé Vintage 2003. Party conversation starter? Oh yeah. The magenta beauty, made of polyurethane resin, is a miniature version of Koons’ large-scale Balloon Venus, which was inspired by the Venus of Willendorf, a limestone Paleolithic figurine unearthed in Austria and dating back to about 23,000 B.C.
The Dom Balloon Venus’ resale value? Hard to say. Koons, 58, did set a world record when his Tulips sold at Christie’s for $33 million in 2012. You do the math.
One fan’s already in the bag: “I know my mother will want one,” Koons told Vogue. Those hankering for a bottle will want to act quickly. Only 650 of the limited-edition champagne holders are available worldwide. Shop the Neiman Marcus Christmas Book (877-9NM-GIFT) or at domperignon.com. If the price tag is more than you had in mind, consider the foils and shields for the Dom Pérignon Rosé 2003 ($399.99) and Blanc Vintage 2004 ($189.99). Koons’ curvaceous Venus appears on two separate limited-edition gift boxes, along with his coveted autograph. Shop at Gulf Liquors (1681 Alton Rd., Miami Beach), Portofino Wine Bank (500 S. Pointe Dr., Miami Beach), Sunset Corners (8701 SW 72nd St., Miami) and Total Wine & More stores throughout South Florida.
