Tips for saving at Target

I've shopped at Target for years, but I still find that I'm learning new ways to save!  When I sat down to put the list together, I was actually shocked to find out that there are so many different savings options.

Manufacturer’s Coupons

It's probably the most obvious, but it's still worth saying ... yes, those wonderful glossy manufacturer's coupons you find in the Sunday newspaper can be used at Target.   Target does limit you to using 4 identical manufacturer's coupons per day.  No cash back is given if the value of the coupon exceeds the price of the item.

Printable Coupons

I love the fact that Target makes it so easy to get their store coupons.  A quick visit to Target.com can save you tons of money with printable coupons.  Each coupon can be printed twice from every computer.  Target printable store coupons may be limited to one per transaction for each coupon.

Mobile Coupons

Ahhh, my favorite Target coupons are the mobile coupons that are sent right to my phone!  To sign up for Target mobile coupons, just text COUPONS to 827438 (Target).  The coupons usually are good for two weeks and you'll receive a reminder to use them before they expire.  Mobile coupons are only good for one time use.

Cartwheel Offers

Fairly new, Cartwheel at Target is another form of Target savings.  Cartwheel offers can save you between 5% - 30% of the purchase price of various products.  Unlike Target mobile coupons, a Cartwheel offer can be applied to multiple purchases.  So if you have a Cartwheel offer to save 5% on toothpaste and you buy 4 tubes of toothpaste, you will save 5% on each one.

To register for Target Cartwheel offers, download the Target Cartwheel app or visit Cartwheel.Target.com.  You must have a Facebook account to sign up for Cartwheel, but can restrict access to your timeline with privacy settings.  To use a Cartwheel offer, have the cashier scan it from your mobile phone or print the offer to redeem it at the register.

The beautiful thing is that you can "stack" a manufacturer's coupon with a Target mobile or printable coupon for great savings, PLUS use Cartwheel offers!!

But wait ... there's more!!

Red Card

The Target Red Card is a way to save 5% on purchases using Target Red Card.  There are two Red Card options.  You can get a Target Red Card Debit card which is linked to your checking account or you can apply for Target Red Card credit card.  In addition to your 5% savings, up to 1% of your purchases can be donated to a school of your choice.  The Target Red Card also gives you free shipping on Target.com, plus an extra 30 days for returns for in store or online purchases.  Apply at customer service or online.

And YES, this 5% Red Card savings is in addition to the manufacturer's coupons, Target printable or mobile coupons, and Cartwheel Savings!

Pharmacy Rewards

Join the free Target Pharmacy Rewards program and receive a 5% discount savings certificate when you have filled 5 prescriptions.  That 5% discount is good for one day of shopping and yes, you guessed it ... it is in addition to the manufacturer's coupons, Target printable and mobile coupons, Cartwheel savings and Red Card savings!!

Price Match Guarantee

Save time and money using Target's Price Match Guarantee.  Show a competitor's ad or online pricing to receive a price adjustment at the time of purchase.  The item must be identical and ad must show the actual price (no percentages).  Online items must be in stock, and excludes Black Friday extreme discounts as well as items shown in limited supply and limited quantity.  Limit of one online price match deal per identical item per person.

The real key to saving at any store is knowledge.  The more you know about the store's policies and programs, the more you can save.  In my next post, I'll delve into the savings secrets of Publix.
