A local DJ is under investigation in connection with a car crash that killed two people early Sunday morning in Coral Gables, police said.

A vehicle driven by Ervens Prudent, 26, described in a local website as a well-known North Miami DJ, rear-ended a second vehicle that had slowed at a traffic light on Southwest Eighth Street at Douglas Road, police said.

Killed in the violent crash was Maria Martinez, 44, and Marlon Gutierrez, 34, both of Sweetwater.

Police said the accident occurred around 1:20 a.m. as Martinez and Gutierrez slowed down for a traffic light as they headed east. Prudent was traveling in the same direction behind them. Police said Prudent’s vehicle apparently failed to stop and slammed into the rear of the couple’s car, leaving both dead at the scene.

It’s unknown how fast Prudent was traveling.

Prudent was seriously injured. He was transported to Jackson Memorial Hospital’s Ryder Trauma Center.

According to the website of Defyne Entertainment, Prudent, also known as DJ A.O.L, “is a Miami record producer, songwriter known for an underground hit song titled "Take a Look at My Swag."

“As a producer he is credited as a key figure in the popularization of North Miami,” the website says.

No charges have been filed yet as the investigation continues.
