Marijuana bricks wash up on Lauderdale-By-The-Sea shore

Several bricks of soggy marijuana washed up on the shore of Lauderdale-by-the-Sea Friday morning.

Witnesses saw a man, later identified as Reginaldo Azevedo, pick up one of the bricks near Commercial Boulevard and start walking quickly north on Ocean Boulevard.

A police officer who was nearby yelled at Azevedo to stop, but he took off running north on Ocean Boulevard. He went about five blocks before he threw the marijuana in the dunes and “started doing exercises,” according to the police report.

Azevedo was charged with possession of marijuana and tampering with evidence. Broward sheriff’s spokeswoman Veda Coleman-Wright said that he was not the intended recipient of the package.

The estimated street value of the four 15-pound bricks of marijuana recovered by the Broward Sheriff’s Office is between $50,000 and $75,000.
