Entertainment power couple Emilio and Gloria Estefan will receive the Greater Miami Chamber of Commerce’s annual “Sand in My Shoes” award for their community involvement.
While Gloria is known as the “Queen of Latin Pop,” Emilio has been attracting national buzz in recent weeks after landing a development deal with 20th Century Fox to create a television series for a Latin audience.
Both have longstanding ties to Miami’s entertainment industry: Gloria as a singer who got her start as the voice of Emilio’s “Miami Sound Machine” in the 1980s, and Emilio as a leading producer of Latin acts.
“Together,” the Chamber announcement read, “the Estefans have achieved incredible professional accomplishment and have always promoted their love and commitment to Greater Miami.” The Chamber award will be presented at a Feb. 20 fundraiser.
