Monkee Davy Jones dies in Stuart at 66

Monkee Davy Jones, a 1960s teen idol, died Wednesday in Martin County of an apparent heart attack.

Jones is survived by his wife Jessica and 4 daughters from previous marriages. He was 66, reports

The Monkees ran from 1966-68, originally a spoof of The Beatles. Jones' co-stars were Micky Dolenz, Michael Nesmith and Peter Tork. Hit songs included Daydream Believer and Last Train to Clarksville.

Jones also originated the role of Artful Dodger in the early 1960s Broadway musical Oliver!. He sang the part on The Ed Sullivan Show on Feb. 9, 1964, the same night The Beatles made their Sullivan show debut.
