Motorcyclist dies days short of 55th birthday in Palm Beach crash

Authorities have identified the 54-year-old man killed Friday when his motorcycle crashed on Military Trail near Community Drive.

William Haythorn, whose home town was not available, died just two days short of his 55th birthday, according to information released this morning by the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office.

Haythorn was on his Harley Davidson headed south on Military Trail at about 3:15 p.m. when Vanessa Verdieu, 23, of West Palm Beach, pulled out of the Coco Plum Plaza and"failed to yield" to the motorcycle as she attemped to head east across Military Trail, investigators report.

Haythorn attempted to avoid the car, but wound up crashing. He was thrown from the motorcycle. Emergency crews took him to St. Mary's Medica Center where he later died, the report states.

The wreck closed the 2700 block of South Military Trail for some time as rescue crews and later investigators worked.
