Brazen smash-and-grab robbers hit a jewelry store at The Shops at Pembroke Gardens on Monday morning, the second such incident in southwest Broward in recent weeks.
Three men wearing hooded sweatshirts went into Sid and Fontan Jewelers, 318 SW 145th Terrace, shortly before 11:30 a.m. and ordered employees to the ground as one of them used a fire ax to smash the jewelry display cases, police said. One of the robbers also had a silver handgun, officials said.
No one was injured in the holdup.
The thieves left in a black Kia with Florida tag 435 YRU, police said.

Because the men wore hoodies, police did not have a specific description, except that the men appeared to be about 20 years old.
Earlier this month, a similar robbery was reported at Mayors jewelry store at 4471 Weston Road, in the Weston Commons shopping center.
Three robbers went into the store at about 10:30 a.m. Oct. 1, fired pepper spray at a security guard, ordered employees to the ground and then ransacked the jewelry cases, authorities said.
The thieves left in a silver BMW X5 SUV that turned out to be stolen in Miramar, according to the Broward Sheriff's Office, which is investigating that robbery. Authorities found the SUV abandoned in nearby Emerald Estates Park moments after the robbery, officials said.
Authorities said they did not know Monday whether the two jewelry store robberies were connected.
Pembroke Pines police ask that anyone with information on the robbery in their city call the police department at 954-431-2200. Tipsters who wish to remain anonymous may contact Broward Crime Stoppers at 954-493-TIPS (8477).
