The Cuban tourist sector has experienced a5.2% growth in the first two months of 2009 compared to the same periodlast year.
The announcement was made on Wednesday in the tourist resort ofGuardalavaca in eastern Holguin province by Tourism Minister ManuelMarrero.
"This increase is the result of our advances in the tourist sector, theservices and the variety of extra-hotel activities that we offer ourvisitors," Marrero explained.
Likewise, the official urged all workers of the sector to increase thequality of services and to be more efficient in the use of resources andequipment available.

Guardalavaca, a tourist resort with a 1,200-room capacity, was the venueof the main activities to mark the national day of the workers of thetourist sector.
Also present at the celebrations were Miguel Diaz Canel, First Secretaryof the Cuban Communist Party in Holguin, and Rodolfo Jimenez Polanco,General Secretary of the National Union of Workers of the Tourist Sector.
