Francisco Santos, creator of the sexy, scary “Vampire Circus,” is catering to families with his latest production.
“Sogno, Circus of Dreams” will debut Friday at the Paseo de las Artes in Doral.
“It brings the family tradition of clowns,” Santos said. “It’s a spectacle that we created for the children to have confidence. We want to show them that they need to keep fighting. It’s a production that inspires.”
Santos, who has also worked with Cirque du Soleil on the creation of the show “Varekai,” has produced “Vampire Circus,” “Tales of a Graveyard Clown,” “Santa’s Circus” and more.
In this production, Santos plays Rampin, a street sweeper at the “Circus of Dreams,” the legendary circus for clowns.
Rampin’s goal is to become a world-renowned clown, but shyness and clumsiness hold him back. Then, he falls into a deep sleep that takes him on a fabulous adventure, in which he meets other aspiring circus dreamers.
The show features comedy and acrobats. Santos hopes to take “Circus of Dreams” overseas, he said.
The production uplifts and inspires, Santos said.
“My family were in the clown business,” he said. “I wanted to bring back that family tradition.”
The show’s message is to never give up, even though it seems the universe is against you. The life lessons taught by Rampin are to follow your instincts and use your talents to make your dreams a reality.
The production invites young children and adult spectators to be a part of the show.
“The theater is close knit. There is a lot of interaction between the actors and the crowd,” Santos said. “We create a storm inside the theater. There is always something happening with the public and our actors.”
