Vivica A. Fox hosted a baby shower last weekend at the Thompson Miami Beach for celebrity Realtor Tomi Rose (Style Network’s Hot Listings Miami), who recently wed former NBA player Mark Strickland. The peach, cream and gold themed “Strollers & Stilettos” soiree was “curated and produced” by Amaris Jones. The mom-to-be, who is expecting a baby girl, was feted by her closest friends including Juwan’s wife Jenine Howard, Amar’e’s wife Alexis Stoudemire, Jamal’s wife Michelle Mashburn, Mario’s mom Almarie Chalmers and socialite Sherie Swerdlow. The lunch was catered by Michelle Bernstein while the dessert bar was by Deja Vu Sweets and the Buttery Creamery. Fellow basketball wives Savannah Brinson and Adrienne Bosh weren’t able to attend but sent gifts. Rose, the senior vice president of the sports and entertainment division of Opulence Realty, has had a lot to celebrate lately as she also sold LeBron James’ Miami estate for $13.4 million last month.
Former Miami Marlins player Luis Castillo and rapper 2 Chainz were seen celebrating their birthdays Sunday at LIV. Castillo was brought a large light-up cake, a massive bottle parade of Moët Nectar Imperial Rose and a large cutout of himself holding a large champagne bottle as a bat as the club helped him celebrate his 40th birthday. 2 Chainz, celebrating his 38th birthday, teamed up with pal Lil Wayne, grabbing the mics and performing for the packed crowd.
LeBron James and Dwyane Wade made their second appearance Monday night at American Social. The NBA superstars dined on salads (Wade had blackened chicken, cranberries, goat cheese and oranges; James had blackened chicken with arugula, grilled corn, tomato and mushrooms) and mixed fruit for dessert, washing it all down with Evian, no booze. A smaller crew of family and business associates accompanied them in the semi-private Kennedy Lounge for Monday Night Football.
Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson was seen supping Wednesday night in the wine room at Prime 112 with pregnant girlfriend Lauren Hashian.
Shaggy spent Monday night at FDR where Get on Up actor Chadwick Boseman, was also in the building hanging out, grabbing drinks at the bar and snapping pics with people.
Latin Grammy nominee pop rock duo Mau y Ricky Montaner were seen Monday at the one-year anniversary party of downtown Mexican spot Cantina La Veiente. Also spotted there: Sergio Vallín Loera, guitarist of Mexican band Maná and radio personality, and television host Humberto Rodriguez Calderon, also known as El Gato.
Diann Valentine, wedding, event and interior designer behind the weddings of Usher, Toni Braxton and Martin Lawrence, among others, will be in Miami from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, at the Fontainebleau's Afternoon of Bridal Luxury, where she will debut the latest collection of Valentine Cuffs, her answer to a bridal bouquet.
We asked Valentine what she suggests Miami brides wear — or not wear and she told us:
“Sleeveless, backless, fitted gowns and low-cut necklines are fabulous choices for Miami brides. With the tropical climate and year round sunshine, Miami tends to bless women with gorgeous tans that are perfect for showing off just a bit of skin in the right areas.”
And a Valentine Cuff, of course.
As for what not to wear, Valentine warns that turtleneck neck lines and full tulle skirts are not the best choice.
“With the warm climate and humid days, turtlenecks and tulle skirts add additional fabric and weight that can make a bride uncomfortable,” she continued. “Most couture wedding gowns are already heavier than a typical evening gown and these style of gowns can leave a woman dripping in sweat before she ever reaches the man of her dreams. Think lightweight and easy to move in.”
