Carole Crist sells Fort Lauderdale condo

Former Florida first lady Carole Crist, wife of ex-Gov. Charlie Crist, quietly unloaded a fancy Fort Lauderdale condo she bought less than two years ago.

She made a few bucks, according to records, but a source close to the political wife says her reasons for selling included that she doesn’t like the Venice of America all that much.

The other reason: She’s looking for a place in the Hamptons on Long Island that she can call her own.

Broward County records show Carole Crist, 46, paid $750,000 cash for an 11th-floor condo at 2200 S. Ocean Lane, at the Point of Americas complex.

Crist, whose husband’s name was not on the deed, first listed it in April for $879,000, records show.

But with very little interest in the 2,200-square-foot, two-bedroom unit, the asking price quickly melted down to $825,000, the price she sold it for June 30.

County permits show Crist put little into the crib, except for some paint, carpeting and new sliding glass doors for a balcony that overlooks the large cruise ships that slide in and out of the port.

“She bought this place to be a little closer to her Miami socialite friend Lauren Sturges-Fernandez,” the source said. “But now, Carole wants a summer place in the Hamptons.”

Coincidentally, the Crists are selling another freshly bought property on the beach near St. Petersburg, where Charlie is from.

According to published reports, the couple is selling a single-family house across the street from the Gulf of Mexico’s sand in St. Pete Beach. They bought the 1,600-square-foot place in both their names a year ago for $906,000, and it’s about to be listed for $1.3 million.

Charlie Crist, meanwhile, is campaigning for a St. Petersburg-area seat in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Carole Crist didn’t return calls for comment on her real estate moves.
