Eight-time Miami Open champ Serena Williams married Reddit founder Alexis Ohanian Thursday night in New Orleans in a wedding fiesta said to set the multimillionaire lovebirds back $1 million.
Under extremely tight security, guests arrived at the Contemporary Arts Center, a late 19th century warehouse turned into a multi-floor gallery, in black Cadillac SUVs with darkened windows.
One by one, the cars slipped into a giant tent where occupants could walk into the venue without being photographed.
Among the boldfacers were singers Beyonce and Ciara, reality TV queen Kim Kardashian, “Desperate Housewives” star Eva Longoria and Vogue editor Anna Wintour.
Young mother Williams, 36, kept her wedding dress under lock and key until the 8 p.m. EST ceremony.
She was transferred from a mansion she rented for her last night as a single woman to the arts center in street clothes.
Earlier in the day, Ohanian showed up at the venue wearing a black T-shirt past its prime, shorts like he was going to a beach and sneakers. He did hold his shiny ceremony shoes in his hands.
At least four bands worked the party. New Edition, the 1980s R&B chart toppers, were the featured entertainers. The band was without founder Bobby Brown, but with all the stars of its “Boys to Men,” “Can You Stand The Rain” and “Count Me Out” era.
Band member Michael Bivins was spotted milling about outside. But when he was asked for an interview, he said he was under “a gag order.”
Three locals bands, one gospel, one funk and one brass jazz, gave the wedding a definite New Orleans feel.
Williams and Ohanian are new parents. Their first-born is a daughter who came into the world in early September.
