Post Johnny Depp scandal, it’s the summer of celebrity divorce

Nope, nothing squashes summer romance quite like the D-word.

We’re talking divorce.

And dissolution of marriages isn’t anything new or out of the norm in Hollywood (though we admit we were slightly gobsmacked by the Johnny Depp-Amber Heard nuclear meltdown in May). But last week, after we heard about a whopping three famous splits, we started feeling a bit like something was in the water out west.

1.) Court records show that Lisa Marie Presley has filed for divorce from her husband of 12 years, guitarist Michael Lockwood. Although irreconcilable differences were cited, TMZ reports that the heiress to Elvis’s $300 million estate believed her husband was using her for her money. The tipoff? A $109,000 credit card bill. Hmmm. The exes have twin girls, 7. Lockwood’s website states he has collaborated on music with his estranged wife, as well as Aimee Mann, Carly Simon and Fiona Apple, but apparently, Presley, 48, is still the breadwinner. She was previously married to actor Danny Keough, Michael Jackson and Nicolas Cage, who actually ended things with his wife the same week. What are the odds?

2.) As for Cage, finances don’t seem to play a part in the actor’s split from waitress-turned- actress Alice Kim, 32. The actor was pictured on a romantic dinner date a few days after news broke that his 11-year marriage had fizzled. So was the mystery kimono-clad lady in the paparazzi pics the other woman? It’s unclear, but Cage is 52 and not getting any younger, so maybe he just wants to have some fun before he settles into middle age. The good news: The ex pair has no kids.

3.) This is not Dennis Quaid’s first trip to the rodeo. Meg Ryan’s famous ex has been married to real estate agent turned handbag designer Kimberly Buffington, for more than a decade, but things have been rocky with these two for a while. According to People, Buffington first filed for the big D in March 2012 then called it off; then he filed a few months later. Keeping up yet? This time it was wifey who pulled the trigger: She seeks joint legal custody of their 8-year-old twins, as well as spousal support. They were married on July 4, 2004, so no need to send anniversary cards.
