International soprano star Chen Reiss has her reasons for loving our town.
“I chose Miami as my honeymoon destination three and a half years ago,” says the Israeli native who will perform Friday night for the Mostly Mozart season finale at Knight Concert Hall. Reiss and her husband (British businessman Charles Dalah) stayed at the Mondrian South Beach and visited such hot spots as BLT at the Betsy, Joe’s Stone Crab (believe it — not for the seafood, but for the steak) and Bal Harbour Shops. At the tony mall, the singer picked up a Badgley Mischka dress that she wore to perform for Pope Francis at the Vatican’s Christmas mass in 2014.
“I was seven months pregnant at the time,” Reiss explains of her honeymoon/babymoon. “A year later we came back on vacation and stayed at the W. I love the sun, the beach, the fabulous hotels and restaurants. Most of all, I love the atmosphere of endless vacation all year round. Everybody is so happy, kind and in a good mood in Miami.”
Speaking of getting in a good mood: Friday night’s Timeless Rose concert will have an added bonus: a performance by Miami City Ballet dancers while the star belts out selections from Mansell, Purcell, Shostakovich, Puccini and more. “We are presenting a multi disciplinary program, which is something I have never done before,” explains Reiss, who added that pre-show warmup includes “as much sleep as much as possible.” She also avoids talking in loud places and doing yoga.
