Look out for little yellow creatures wearing suspenders and goggles if you have tickets to the Homestead-Miami Speedway Friday through Sunday for the Ford Championship Weekend. Three breakout stars of the Despicable Me spinoff, Minions — Kevin, Stuart and Bob — will be a lovably annoying fixture throughout the venue. These guys are nothing if not self-promoting; their cameo in SoFla has a little to do with the DVD release of their big-screen epic, Minions, on Dec. 8. Tickets still are available for Friday and Saturday race-related festivities: (305) 230-5255 or www.homesteadmiamispeedway.com.
Shoe moguls Donald and Lisa Pliner are tickled pink to be back in Miami after logging time out in La-La Land. The power couple will open their appropriately named Coming Home art gallery from 6-9 p.m Thursday night at 29 NW 24th St., Miami. In the Wynwood space, the Pliners are stepping away from shoes, showing off a curated collection of home furnishings and stylish knickknacks from their world travels. Lisa will also sign copies of her new book, “co-written” by their precious Maltese, Baby Doll, Look Into Her Eyes. Donald told Footwear News he is working on a book, too — a memoir: “I’ve done interesting things in my life.” RSVP: email@example.com or 786-534-7576.
It’s that time of year again when Cash Money Records co-founders/brothers Ronald “Slim” Williams and Brian “Baby” Williams will hand out 1,000 turkeys to you, the people. Feel like you need some poultry in your life? Head to Little Haiti Soccer Park, 6301 NE Second Ave., between 2:30 p.m. and 6 p.m. Friday.
