Melanie Amaro, 19, of Sunrise, improved her chances of winning The X-Factor competition Wednesday night with a soulful rendition of Nina Simone’s Feeling Good that brought down the house and Mariah Carey’s Hero. Amaro, a Plantation High graduate, is now one of four singers fighting to win a $5 million recording contract. At Thursday’s result show, the field will be cut to three.
