Bless her fashionable heart. Maria Sharapova doesn’t shy away from high heels, despite the fact that she’s six-foot-two — barefoot. The Russian tennis sensation stepped out in style in Miami Tuesday night in sky-high yellow Louboutins and a green floral Dolce & Gabbana dress for a party thrown by Porsche to celebrate its beautiful brand ambassador (that would be her).
Also cohosting the soiree held at the sales gallery for the SLS Lux condo in Brickell was Haute Living magazine; Sharapova graces the cover of the March issue. She meandered gracefully through the cellphone-snapping crowd, at least a foot higher than half of the attendees.
Despite Sharapova’s amazing résumé — including five Grand Slams — she tells HL there is still room for improvement: “You always need the motivation that ‘Yes, I can perform and, yes, I can be physically better.’ There’s no slowing down at this point.”
You can say that again: The 27-year-old, in town to compete at the Miami Open in Key Biscayne, has almost too many off-court ventures to count. She also works with such megabrands as Nike, TAG Heuer, Evian, Avon and Head. Sharapova is also co-investor in Supergoop skincare and is approaching three years as the founder and creative director of her candy collection, Sugarpova.
Idris Elba is stepping up to the plate. According to the The Hollywood Reporter the Luther star is replacing Jamie Foxx to portray a gangster rapper in the upcoming drama The Trap. The Miami-set movie is written and directed by Harmony Korine (2012’s controversial Spring Breakers) and stars Benicio Del Toro as an ex-con seeking revenge against an old rival (Elba). James Franco plays a hot mess of a music manager; Al Pacino is Del Toro’s parole officer. It is unclear when filming is to begin, but be on the lookout for a handful of stars.
Madonna sure can pack ’em in. And we’re sure she can keep up her energy for another show in Miami. Just stay away from long capes, OK? There’s a concert at AAA on Aug. 20, then the pop diva will return to the same venue on Aug. 29. Tickets for that second and final show go on sale at 10 a.m. Monday.
