Thousands celebrate new allegiance
By MIAMI HERALD STAFF
Nearly 6,000 migrants recited the pledge of allegiance -- some in tears -- to the flag of the United States of America at the Miami Beach convention center on Wednesday.
It was an emotional moment for Milena Shaw, from Panama, who had her right hand on her chest, while holding a small U.S. flag during the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services naturalization ceremony.
Haitian migrant Emmanuela Edouard told a CBS-4 reporter she felt great. Yvens Fievre also from Haiti shared the excitement.
The group included 100 different nationalities.
