District titles old hat for Douglas
Miller guides Hollywood Hills to district crown

A balanced attack led the top seed Douglas High School girls' varsity volleyball team over visiting Coral Springs 25-16, 25-10, 25-19 for the District 10-6A title on Thursday night. It marked the 15th district title for the Eagles, eight consecutive.
Douglas, the top public school team in Broward, proved why with senior Kendall Putnam totaling 12 kills (two blocks), nine digs, seven service points (two aces) and sophomore Brittany Sauls recording 14 digs, eight service points (two aces), four kills (two tips) and junior Aline Valiengo adding 21 assists, six kills (three tips).
Freshman Kirsten Kuhl had nine kills (two blocks), and junior Victoria Ashley had seven kills (one block, one tip). Freshman Lauren Strode had nine digs, nine service points (two aces).
Coral Springs battled hard in the third game with Lauren Lewkowicz getting four of her 12 kills and Taylor Ruiz delivering five of her nine kills then. Putnam had six kills, and Ashley Siegel, Ashley, Kuhl and Putnam had blocks for points.
Six players (Ashley, Kuhl, Putnam, Sauls, Siegel, Valiengo) had kills for the Eagles in the opener. Lewkowicz led the Colts in game one with four kills (block, tip) and an ace. Strode had seven service points (two aces) in game three.

Taylor Miller had 34 kills (six tips, four blocks) and seven service points (two aces) as Hollywood Hills won the District 11-6A title by beating Plantation 25-13, 25-23, 21-25, 25-15 on Thursday afternoon at South Broward High School in Hollywood.
Miller had 10 kills in the opener, and teammate Ayalivis DeLaRosa totaled 10 of her 17 service points in game one.
Amanda Wright played very well with 10 kills (block) and six service points (ace). Bola Adeoba, who had 13 service points (three aces), four kills (block, tip) and solid defense, recorded five service points (two aces) and two kills (block, tip) in a close game two.
Miller, who also did a good job defensively, responded with nine kills in the second game. Freshman setter Beth Shoaff played smart throughout, totaling 11 service points (three aces), four kills (tip) and multiple sets. She had five service points (ace) in the fourth game.
Shaila Kavrakova also had some nice sets. Jessica Sotelo recorded the final two service points in game two, and Miller's kill in game four clinched the title.
For Plantation, Jenna Keeler had 20 kills (four blocks), 16 digs and six service points. Keeler had seven kills in game two. Desiree Hardy had 14 assists, seven service points (three aces), six kills. She served an ace to seal the win in game three.
Ann-lori Pierre had eight kills (two blocks) with five in game three, and Amy Avila totaled nine service points with five points and two kills (tip) in game three. Keeler added six kills (two blocks) and four service points in the third game.

Cypress Bay will travel to Hollywood Hills in the region quarterfinal on Nov. 4.Plantation will travel to West Broward.
