After dropping the first game on the road before a very vocal crowd, the West Broward High School girls' varsity volleyball team regrouped to win the next three games, defeating Pembroke Pines Charter 19-25, 25-12, 25-22, 25-16 on Wednesday night.

The difference in the first two games was dramatic. Led by senior middle Leslie Roper, the Jaguars (12-5) seized the momentum by taking the first game. In game two, West Broward elevated its play and took advantage of service miscues and passing problems by Pines Charter.

The Bobcats (14-4) also did a good job blocking with sophomore middles Elizabeth McHugh (six kills-two blocks) and Amanda Jacob (one kill, four service points-ace) leading the effort.

Jessica Barnes, a junior, added a kill off a block in game two. Freshman hitter Ashley Navarrete had four kills and an ace. Jaclyn Pickett, a junior, had two kills (one tip) and three service points, and senior setter Katherine Maher added seven service points in the second game.

Tied at one, the third game proved key. The Jaguars played better, making the Bobcats earn this one. Pines Charter junior middle Julie Brito had five kills (three blocks) in the third game.

Senior Ashley Hernandez had three kills and two service points. Giovanna Lescano, a junior, had five service points (three aces) and a kill. Roper added three kills and a service point.

McHugh totaled four kills (one tip) in game three for the Bobcats. Pickett had three kills. Maher had two kills, two service points (ace). Navarrete had three kills, two service points (ace). Jacob had three kills, five service points (two aces). Maher had a crucial ace and Navarrete a kill late in the match. Pickett's two kills closed the game three win.

In the fourth game, Roper had six kills (one block), but West Broward dominated. Senior libero Emily Navarrete, who was solid on defense, had three service points (two aces), and junior all-around talent Sineidy Cruz recorded three aces.

Cruz also did a good job setting. Maher added four service points (ace) and a kill. Jacob had a block, and Danielle Berrios had a kill.

For Pines Charter on senior night, Roper finished with 13 kills (seven blocks). Alessia Delaflor had 21 digs. Senior setter Ashley Shearer had 17 assists. Dani Escobar, a senior, and Lescano each had five digs and some aces. Senior Ashley Hernandez had five kills and three digs.
