Wickmayer, Kvitova into Linz final

The Sports Network

Belgian Yanina Wickmayer and Czech Petra Kvitova both won semifinal matches Saturday and will face off in the final of the Generali Ladies Linz tennis event.

Wickmayer, a wildcard entry and seeded third, knocked off top-seeded Italian Flavia Pennetta, 7-6 (7-5), 6-3. Kvitova beat second seed Agnieszka Radwanska of Poland, 6-3, 6-2 on the indoor hardcourts at Linz' Intersport Arena.

Radwanska was last week's Beijing runner-up to French Open champion Svetlana Kuznetsova, but she was no match for Kvitova, who was playing her first semifinal since she went all the way to the title at Hobart at the start of the season. That marked Kvitova's first career championship.

Wickmayer, a surprise U.S. Open semifinalist, also won her first title earlier this year on the red clay at Estoril as an unseeded player.

This will be the fourth meeting between Wickmayer and Kvitova with the Belgian holding a 2-1 edge.

The winner of this $220,000 tournament will earn $37,000.
