The Sports Network

Top seeds Flavia Pennetta and Agnieszka Radwanska were among Thursday's second-round winners at the Generali Ladies Linz tennis event.

Pennetta continued her fine season with a 6-3, 4-6, 6-2 victory over big- serving German Anna-Lena Groenefeld, while Radwanska handled France's Alize Cornet 6-4, 7-5 on the indoor hardcourts at Linz' Intersport Arena. Radwanska was last week's Beijing runner-up to French Open champion Svetlana Kuznetsova.

Up next for Pennetta will be Romanian Ioana Raluca Olaru, while Radwanska will face seventh-seeded Czech Lucie Safarova in Friday's quarterfinals.

In other Day-4 action involving seeds, No. 3 Yanina Wickmayer, of Belgium, came from behind to beat Romanian Alexandra Dulgheru 2-6, 6-3, 6-1 and the aforementioned Safarova, dismissed Radwanska's sister Urszula 6-4, 6-4. Wickmayer was a surprise U.S. Open semifinalist last month.

One other second-rounder saw Raluca Olaru overcome German qualifier Julia Goerges 3-6, 6-2, 7-5.

The other quarters will pit Wickmayer versus eighth-seeded Italian Sara Errani and fourth-seeded Spaniard Carla Suarez Navarro versus Czech Petra Kvitova.

The winner of this $220,000 tournament will earn $37,000.
