With National Signing Day less than three weeks away, 100 of Dade and Broward's best seniors took the field one last time Friday night in the 14th Annual South Florida Dade vs. Broward All-Star game.
The Dade All-Stars defeated the Broward All-Stars 16-14 in front of roughly 2,500 fans at Traz Powell Stadium, taking an 8-6 lead in the all-time series.
Dade sealed its victory with 6:09 left in the fourth quarter when American linebacker Andres Trujillo sacked Deerfield Beach's Denard Robinson in the end zone. Broward made one final push with less than a minute to play but was turned back when Coral Springs' Carlos Romero missed a 46-yard field goal with six seconds left.
The Dade All-Stars took control of the game early behind the strong play of three Booker T. Washington players. Senior quarterback Torrance Moise, who earned the game's MVP award, gave Dade its first score of the night when he dodged three Broward defenders and scrambled 14 yards into the end zone late in the first quarter.
Defensive back Natturner Harris showed why he has garnered attention from schools such as Miami, Florida State and Rutgers, intercepting a pass intended for St. Thomas Aquinas' Duron Carter.
Keenan Frazier, a senior linebacker, recorded six first-half tackles.
The Broward All-Stars responded just before halftime, as they put together a nine-play, 54-yard drive capped by a 4-yard run by Cypress Bay's Jason Douglas to tie the score at 7.
During halftime, former Carol City coach Walt Frazier was presented with a lifetime achievement award. Frazier, who retired in 2007, coached in Dade County for 40 years and won three state championships.
Christopher Columbus coach Christ Merritt received the Coach of the Year award, while Killian running back Lamar Miller and Miramar quarterback Eugene Smith earned Player of the Year honors.
Moise struck again after halftime, this time through the air as he connected with Central's Jairus Williams.
Williams out-jumped St. Thomas Aquinas' Ronnie Kennedy in the corner of the end zone and hauled in the 9-yard pass.
Defensive end Cesar Rodriguez, one of seven players from Columbus in the game, recorded two sacks.
