SIGNINGS
A Blanche Ely defensive back declared his college intentions on national television for the second consecutive year.
Michael Carter orally committed to West Virginia on Saturday during NBC's live broadcast of the U.S. Army All-American Bowl in San Antonio. Last year, former teammate Patrick (Johnson) Peterson committed to LSU on national television.
''I will head to West Virginia,'' said Carter, who became the third Broward County prospect to commit to the Mountaineers, joining Miramar's Eugene Smith and Stedman Bailey. Miami Northwestern running back Daquan Hargrett has also committed to the Mountaineers.
Carter, a 5-11, 160-pound defensive back, said he chose West Virginia over Miami, Florida, Minnesota and Georgia.
Carter had a pair of interceptions on an Ely defense that averaged 72 passing yards allowed per game this season.
Carter joined a number of Floridians on the East All-Star team that prevailed 30-17 behind a pair of touchdowns by UM-committed running back Bryce Brown.
Brown, from Wichita, Kan., caught a 60-yard touchdown pass from Virginia quarterback Tajh Boyd.
Brown scored again when Boyd found him behind the West defense for a 41-yard touchdown that gave the East a 30-10 lead with 6:16 remaining.
Two of UM's top lineman targets, chose other schools, however.
Defensive tackle William Campbell (6-5, 317 pounds), a Detroit native, had UM among his short list of potential schools but committed to Michigan during the game. Campbell is rated the No. 4 defensive tackle in the country, according to Rivals.com.
Offensive tackle Xavier Nixon of Fayetteville, N.C., committed to the University of Florida. Nixon (6-6, 263), rated the No. 3 offensive tackle in the nation by Rivals.com, picked the Gators over UM, LSU, North Carolina and N.C. State.
Plantation's Brandon McGee, a solid UM commitment, was the only other South Florida player in the game. McGee nearly broke the opening kickoff for a touchdown, returning it 40 yards.
Palm Beach Central linebacker Jon Bostic, a 6-2, 225-pound linebacker, also committed to Florida, picking the Gators over UM, FSU, Auburn, Tennessee and Clemson.
More of South Florida's top talent will be showcased on national television Sunday night with the second annual Under Armour All-American game at the Citrus Bowl in Orlando.
The game, which will be broadcast live on ESPN, will feature six South Florida players: Palmetto running back Jaamal Berry (Ohio State commit), St. Thomas Aquinas wide receiver Duron Carter (Ohio State), Hallandale Beach linebacker/defensive back Ricardo Dixon (South Florida), Columbus defensive tackle Antwan Lowery (Rutgers), Gulliver linebacker Frankie Telfort (uncommitted) and athlete Victor Marc (USF).
