FSU's Parker still facing felony charge
Posted on Wed, Apr. 30, 2008
From Miami Herald Reports
Florida State receiver Preston Parker still faces a weapons charge after a petty theft charge was dropped.
Parker paid $200 in court costs Monday to drop the 2006 misdemeanor of stealing a $9.99 DVD movie from a store in Tallahassee.
Parker was arrested earlier this month on a misdemeanor charge of possessing less than 20 grams of marijuana and the felony charge of having a loaded .45-caliber pistol in the dash of his car.
The weapons charge in Palm Beach County must be resolved before he can rejoin the team.
Parker, 21, was selected Florida State's most valuable player last season after leading the team with 1,513 all-purpose yards and 62 receptions.
HURRICANES NAB DEFENSIVE TACKLE
The University of Miami, in search of depth at defensive tackle, picked up one of the state's top 2009 recruits when 6-3, 280-pound Luther Robinson of Fort Pierce Westwood High orally committed to the Hurricanes.
Robinson, rated a four-star recruit by Rivals.com, earned defensive line MVP honors at last month's Nike Camp in Gainesville, and said he received offers from Florida, South Carolina, UCF, Louisville, Georgia and Georgia Tech in the past month.
''I liked how coach [Clint] Hurtt made me feel at home when I visited UM last Friday with my family,'' said Robinson, who joins blue-chip running back Bryce Brown as one of five UM commitments in the class of 2009. ``I like the smaller classes because that's what I'm used to. And its close to home.''

WADE'S BASKETBALL CAMP
FIU has been chosen as one of two South Florida sites this summer for Dwyane Wade's all-star basketball camps. The Miami camp will take place July 1-3 in Pharmed Arena at FIU. Boca Raton's Levis Community Center also will host a camp on the same dates.
The camp offers two sessions for boys and girls, ages 7 to 11 and 12 to 18. Each camper will receive a camp T-shirt, photo, nine hours of instruction and the opportunity to win prizes. Each camper will be placed on a team according to his or her skill level and age. Campers will play a minimum of one game each day, and partake in various competitions.
''We are pleased to be one of the host sites for this summer's Dwyane Wade basketball camps,'' FIU athletic director Pete Garcia said. ``This is something Dwyane has decided to do in this community and, as Miami's public university, we are happy to assist.''
The cost per camper is $249 but scholarships are available to underprivileged/at-risk youth from the Urban League of Broward County. Go online to dwyanewade3.com to register.
