Cardinal Gibbons hires girls' coach
Posted on Fri, Apr. 18, 2008
Marty Seidlin won't be the only new face roaming the Cardinal Gibbons basketball sideline next season. The Chiefs, who named Seidlin, a former Dillard assistant, their boys' coach Monday, have named Kevin Gordon to take over their girls' program.
Gordon, 27, who has been an assistant at Flanagan, American Heritage and, most recently, Pine Crest, replaces Dave O'Connell, who stepped down after the Chiefs finished 3-19, including 1-11 in District 15-4A. The Chiefs hope Gordon can restore a program that, up until three years ago, ranked among the best in Broward County.
''We will try and get them back to being a county power,'' Gordon said. ``They have some talent they just didn't show it last year. Our biggest focus will be fundamentals. I want them to play defense and be aggressive.''

FOOTBALLThe second annual STACK magazine Elite Tour, showcasing hundreds of the country's top high school football players, kicks off Friday at the Dolphins' training facility in Davie.
About 250 South Florida football players are expected to attend Friday's closed-to-the-public event, the first of 10 tour stops nationwide. It will feature professional coaches and trainers -- along with a guest appearance from Dolphins safety Yeremiah Bell -- running drills and skill tests.
Top athletes at each of three positions will be named to the Reebok Elite Team, and one MVP will be selected (with each of the 10 cities' MVPs to be featured in the September 2008 issue of STACK). The participants, who have been selected, were picked with the help of area coaches. Drills begin at about 5 p.m.
