University of Florida coach Urban Meyer turned down the job at Notre Dame in 2004 and instead chose to coach the Gators. On Monday, he indicated that he would do it again.
Amid speculation he is a candidate to replace current Notre Dame coach Charlie Weis, Meyer said Monday that he is content where he is. During the preseason, Meyer said he would never coach at Notre Dame.
Meyer briefly addressed a question Monday during his weekly news conference about Notre Dame when asked by a reporter if Meyer was ready to dispel any rumors.
``I'm ready to dispel it,'' Meyer said. ``I'm going to be the coach at Florida as long as they'll have me. So I want to make that clear.''
Weis could be in jeopardy of losing his job after failing to lead his team to a BCS bowl berth this season. Last summer, Meyer said in a radio interview that Notre Dame was his ``dream job.''
According to Meyer's autobiography, Urban's Way, Meyer was the leading candidate to replace Tyrone Willingham at Notre Dame in 2004.
Meyer was an assistant at Notre Dame under former Fighting Irish coach Lou Holtz from 1996 to 2000. Meyer coached at Bowling Green and Utah for two years each before departing for Gainesville in winter of 2004. Since then, Meyer has won two national championships with Gators and UF is a favorite to win a third this season.
