Miami Dolphins developmental player jailed in Broward

jdarlington@MiamiHerald.com

Dolphins cornerback Will Billingsley, a developmental player who has battled his way back onto Miami's practice squad time after time over the past 1 ½ years, is now facing adversity of a more serious kind.

Billingsley was being held at Broward County Jail Tuesday morning pending trial on two charges, one for domestic violence and one for resisting arrest without violence, according to Broward Sheriff's Office online records.

Details of the case were not yet released, but Billingsley, 25, was still being held at the jail Tuesday. Billingsley had not been any trouble for the Dolphins previously, and he is a mild-mannered player in the locker room.

Undrafted in 2007 out of North Carolina A&T, he was picked up by the Dolphins as a free agent in April 2008. Billingsley has managed to cling to a spot on the practice squad despite consistently being replaced by new players -- only to be signed again when room opened up on the roster.

The Dolphins clearly like Billingsley's potential after devoting more than a year to developing him. It is unknown whether the latest incident could have any impact on his status with the team.
