Cutting corners has not proved wise — or successful — for Jane Seo.
Seo, 24, a food blogger from New York, finished second and won the silver medal in the women’s division of Sunday’s Fort Lauderdale Half-Marathon. Except she didn’t, really. In the dishonored tradition of Rosie Ruiz, Seo was found to have achieved her 1-hour 21-minute time by running about 1 1/2 miles less than the required full 13.1-mile course, and was disqualified.
A website called Marathoninvestigation.com exposed Seo (who knew there was such a site) when a photo-closeup of the runner’s wristwatch she wore during the race indicated she had run only 11.65 miles.
Seo later admitted she had cheated in a since-deleted Instragam post, writing, “I got swept away in the moment and pretended I ran the entire course.”
Let us hope the food blogger does not similarly cut corners on her recipes.
