Recap: Chivas USA vs. San Jose

The Sports Network

The San Jose Earthquakes and Chivas USA battled to a 2-2 draw in Major League Soccer action at the Home Depot Center on Saturday night.

Chivas USA (13-9-6) scored early and late to settle for the point and move to the top of the Western Conference table by one point over Los Angeles and Houston, which play each other on Sunday.

San Jose (7-13-9), eliminated from playoff contention, now has just one loss in its last seven MLS fixtures.

The game's first goal was scored in the seventh minute when Mykel Galindo ran onto the end of a Sacha Kljestan feed and fired past San Jose goalkeeper Andrew Weber.

The Earthquakes pulled the goal back in the 21st minute when right back Chris Leitch played a ball up the wing to Shea Salinas, who then crossed into the Chivas USA penalty area. Brandon McDonald got on the end of the service and headed it home for his first goal of the season.

Leitch assisted on the next goal as well, in the 58th minute, when he crossed a free kick into the Chivas USA area to Ryan Johnson, who lobbed a header over goalkeeper Zach Thornton and in for his 11th goal of the season.

The Goats got the equalizer less than 10 minutes later, however, when Ante Jazic crossed into the San Jose box to Justin Braun, who headed home from eight yards.

San Jose will close out its season at Los Angeles on Saturday, while Chivas USA plays Thursday at Chicago before closing out its regular season three days later vs. Houston.
